Scenario

A national healthcare organization used Starbucks and Grubhub gift cards to recognize staff throughout the year. In 2023 they gave out $2,000,000 in gift cards to the 4,000 employees as part of their recognition program to help motivate employees and help them feel valued.

Recognizing the investment was significant, management was concerned that not all the gift card value was being used. After some analysis, the finance team discovered that only 44% of the gift cards sent were ever accessedMeaning that $1,120,000 of purchased gift cards went unused and delivered no benefit to the employees!

Solution

The organization moved the program to Whistle Rewards immediately stopping the gift card waste.  The company could also distribute reward on a custom-branded, reloadable, rewards Visa card increasing its own brand visibility and dramatically increasing the options where and how the funds could be spent.  Employees had many more options to spend rewards in support of their individual needs without having to manage multiple gift cards.

The healthcare organization can now retain any of the funds not accessed by team members to repurpose. And any accessed funds (loaded to a card for employees) do not expire so the value is not lost.

Impact

  • $1,085,000 reduction in total program costs
  • 100% transparency into who is receiving and sending rewards, and how the rewards are being used.
  • Staff loved the program, with 93% saying they preferred the new platform.

’The days of pizza parties and cheap gifts are over! Whistle has been a game changer for our organization. We can place an instant gift or recognition in real time!  Our team members from all generations loved getting cash to use anyway or anywhere they want! We will never waste money on gift cards again.’
